Light_Paper_Noise
Installation by Joseph Gray
at Unit B Gallery in San Antonio, Texas Documentation: Video Install Process Source Media and Software Finished Installation The paper construction process of this piece was identical to that of Light_Paper_Sound, the variation being the influence of images from the trip to San Antonio: the local flora of the area, it's unique architechtural ornament (which are often plant based forms) and as art historian Steven Vroom commented the influence of seeing the American landscape from the jet on the way there. Included in the slide show to the right are the airplane photographs for the viewer to compare and contrast. The projector was set up on what was once a kitchen counter, as the small but mighty Unit B was formerly a residence. The projector light was turned on while the paper was being hung so that the illuminated area would be considered in the final form of the piece. In Light_Paper_Sound the sculpture was created first and then the projectors were set in place, which proved to be problematic as the projection area and paper surface did not necessarily line up. Another difference is that no digital mask was created for the animation, thus allowing the projection light to spill off of the sculpture and reveal the projections inherent rectangular shape. |
